Stephano to join EG?

The French man with the lovely hair - Stephano is to sign up with the Team Evil Geniuses, Slasher reports. He’s been with them forever but to greater heights means greater expenditure. One that millenium cannot seem to cope up with.

Millenium eSports Manager Jean-Marc “Bjoran” Gaudin has confirmed with GameSpot that Stephano has declined the team’s offer, and will not be re-signing. Sources close to the situation tell GameSpot that Stephano will sign with Evil Geniuses, which was said to have made the most lucrative offer among the professional teams, with Millenium close behind. One team executive said it’s “pretty much a done deal with Evil Geniuses.

I would say that would be a good deal but I’m also curious about what the rest of Evil Genius’ team is up to.  We have IdrA, Machine, inControL with lacklustre performances. They are great guys, don’t get me wrong, but why aren’t they performing? Why did HuK go down in that fashion. Is it an EG curse? or are they spoilt with too much money? Is their practice routine bad? Or are they spending too much time marketing themselves as personalities and not players?

Milkis talks about Starcraft 2 and Esports.

It’s been super hectic, but we love you guys and we have been spending a lot of time on working on things here at our end. Here’s some awesome stuff to read for now.

Milkis talks about the races in starcraft according to the koreans here. The general conclusion is Terran is strong and Protoss is not. Which, for once, is something we foreigners agree as well.

But it doesn’t end there, Milkis went on to do a IamA on Reddit where he answers questions about Starcraft 2 and Esports. Here are some interesting tid bits.

What’s the current state of the SCBW scene right now?

The current BW scene isn’t great, but it’s not like it will die anytime soon. You have to note that every team left is backed by a major corporation. About SCBW progamers transitioning to SC2, most progamers who transitioned either needed the money (MVP is a big example of this), or just wanted a new challenge (NaDa).

how come sponsors are dropping out when BW games still hit #1 ratings in one of the most sought demographics?

They still hit #1 ratings on important games. But sponsors are still dropping out. Even sponsoring BW is getting less and less lucrative for a lot of sponsors. The “medium” sponsors are dropping out of e-Sports because it’s simply not financially worth it any more. If BW isn’t worth it, then SC2 wont’ be worth it, unless you’re going for a more global reach. Not many of the BW sponsors are very global atm.

We hear about how well Flash gets paid. but what about the rest of the BW pro scene?

Most A class players get paid over 40K each, with many of the top grade A players getting close to 6 figures. Even B team players get some salary, something like 20K~ish on average.

What do you think has to happen to make it(Starcraft 2) last 5 more years. Or 10 more years?

I don’t know. I think SC2’s draw is the global reach, and I hope to see sponsors hopping on to them with this in mind. If global companies like Samsung, LG, Korean Air, (aka esports friendly corporations) start jumping in, SC2 could last quite a bit.

Recently, you’ve been placing very well at a bunch of tournaments and have been beating lots of top level talent (EG’s IdrA comes to mind). Being a newer name to the scene, how has the sudden spike in popularity and attention been treating you?


SixjaxDDE: I think many have heard about me since the beginning of this year so I do not think im not one of those new player on the scene. Anyway, I have gained huge popularity after winning Tactic 3D against Idra and after winning ttsport. When I am playing 4v4 games with my friends theres atleast one person on the opposite team that recognized me. I felt good for being known to starcraft 2 community and the players.
